You've heard this story before.

A person realizes they’re a writer and goes to school for it, studying history so they can apply it to something interesting. They graduate, move to Philadelphia, get a job as a legal proofreader, quit, move the Virgin Islands for some reason, get a day job managing a title insurance office near the cruise ship docks and volunteer as a veterinary technician on the side, sometimes making house calls to ailing donkeys or horses who need their teeth floated (i.e., filed), all the while writing short stories and songs to keep making cool stuff and stay sane, before deciding (with not a small amount of regret) that one can only spend so much time at the beach and that it’s dispiriting to have to keep all of one’s dry goods in the fridge (so the ants won’t eat them) and the windows closed at night (so the giant rats won’t get in), so they (the person, not the rats) end up moving back to the States and stumbling into a job at an ad agency, appreciating the facts that a) they now get paid to make cool stuff and b) can leave crackers in a cabinet. Okay, you haven't heard that story, but we all have a version of it, right?

Here's some of the stuff I’ve been fortunate to do since then, a lot of it with my art director partner, Jon Cochran:

  • Brands I've done work for include Gillette, TNT/Turner, NFL, BMW, Capital One, Vanguard, Applebee's, Venus, Invesco, Goldman Sachs and more.

  • Over a span of seven years, helped transform the Gillette brand into a modern presence through 360º global campaigns, high-profile partnerships, brand films, social, you name it. I've been one of the longest-running creatives on the account.

  • Co-created and -developed Gillette’s “We Believe” anthem.

  • Currently serve as day-to-day client-facing creative lead and oversee creative teams for two major brands.

  • Made Gillette’s best-performing and -received commercial in a decade. (“Your Best Never Comes Easy” with Shaquem Griffin)

  • Directed/created a short film series for the TREO, the first razor designed for caregivers.

  • Ran a non-profit AIDS-related charity in NYC for several years with my friends. We held an annual fundraiser concert with performers such as Jon Oliver, Aziz Ansari, The Mountain Goats.

  • Wrote stuff that was published in humor books such as The Indie Cred Test on Penguin and The Rock Bible on Quirk.

  • Currently recording an album, as required by law for all Brooklyn residents.

  • Have devoted absurd amounts of time and resources feeding my addictions to live music (over 1,000 shows) and records (don’t ask).

For what it’s worth, I also love dogs, baseball and really good TV, in no
particular order.

 

Speaking of dogs, I'm a bit of a terrier in a job sense, laser-focused on creating things and crafting them until they’re as good as they can possibly be. For me, it’s all about the work and the people with whom I’m lucky enough to create it.
